An opportunity to be pivotal in the growth of a very successful, debt free and profitable, privately owned subcontract engineering SME. The business has an enviable customer portfolio and offers specialist project engineering services for industries including nuclear energy, road and rail infrastructure, and defense. It is well positioned for growth, both in the UK and abroad.

As Engineering Director you will be working closely with a high calibre MD whose experience includes some of the world’s best manufacturing and engineering businesses. You will have considerable autonomy over commercial, operational and strategic development. Supported by a number of managers you will be responsible for sales, design, estimating, project management and production to deliver quality product, profitably and on time.

Your overall aim will be to leverage growth and profitability from a highly motivated, loyal, skilled and flexible workforce; and an enviable reputation of quality product. You will be expected to drive the business to achieve agreed sales and profit targets, identify potential markets and subsequently to develop the offering of a specialist in subcontract engineering to meet new business.  

You should  have a relevant mechanical engineering qualification and extensive experience of modern computerised production control systems, in a subcontract manufacturing environment. Your CV should demonstrate and substantiate a trackrecord of success to date. You must be able to; provide strong leadership and continue to foster an effective workforce and; to communicate effectively at all levels with both customers and internal managers. An SME background is essential as the role will be varied, requiring a multidisciplinary skills from operational, commercial and strategic issues, to providing hands on leadership on the “shop floor”. There is scope for development and interest in the long term.
